As reported in this IGN article, Rock Band 2 is official. It will be released for the Xbox 360 in
September 2008 and to other game systems later in the year (presumably that means
before Christmas?).
Here is something really cool about Rock Band 2: the set list for it when it is released may be
over 300 songs because all of the DLC from the first Rock Band will be compatible with
Rock Band 2.
Importantly, the peripherals from Rock Band 1 will work for Rock Band 2,
though they will be releasing (not yet specified) upgraded versions for Rock
Band 2. If only the same peripherals could be used for Guitar Hero and vice versa: see here for more on that idea.
In response to
IGN’s asking why Rock Band 2 is being released first on the Xbox 360:
“Microsoft has been a great partner throughout the launch of Rock Band in the last year and their continued support is instrumental in supporting the more advanced features and cross title compatibility we will have in Rock Band 2,” a Harmonix representative told IGN. “Of course, our goal is to make Rock Band 2 accessible to all and we look forward to bringing Rock Band 2 to all relevant platforms later this year.”
Even more information can be found in IGN’s interview.
