The Wii is no joke. Nintendo boasts :

Equaling its status on a worldwide basis, Wii™ has become the
best-selling video game console in the United States. According to
independent sales tracking information from the NPD Group, more than
666,000 Wii consoles sold for the month of June, and nearly 10.9
million Wii consoles have been sold in the United States in the 20
months following its November 2006 launch. The system is credited with
breaking down the psychological barriers between gamers and non-gamers.

You have to give it to Nintendo: they are bringing in many new gamers with this machine. It’s pretty amazing. When I first heard of the concept, I was skeptical of the idea that gamers would gravitate towards games involving the bizarre-looking controller. But as I’m happy to admit that my skepticism has disappeared.

It looked like Nintendo was down and out a number of years ago, but they’ve shown that they can still set trends in this crazy video market.
