Future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre has not even taken one snap for the Jets in game yet but that did not stop EA from fueling the fanboy frenzy by making a new photoshopped cover available to download for free. This allows those of us that have purchased or stolen copies of Madden 09 for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and PSP to download a shiny new cover of old ‘chuck & pray’ in his Jets jersey via a hi-res pdf. Kotaku says that if you buy it at Sam’s Club, they will print the cover for you while stand there. Way better than the old dot-matrix printer down in the basement.
Additionally there is an automatic update that places Favre as the starting quarterback on the Jets when you take the game online. I wonder if Chad Pennington will get the shaft here too? I love how some players get hosed by being left off of a roster or have the wrong basic skill attributes – all of which go ignored in numerous updates, yet #4 gets hooked up with his own personal update. Reggie Bush wanted hooked up a bit more too.
This has to be some form of the Madden Curse right? I mean the guy solidified his career and threw a nasty exclamation mark on it by taking the cheesehead nation to the playoffs in an almost MVP-like fashion. Now he has seemingly picked a fight with the team that he has been synonymous with for years, is thrust into the largest market with little time to get ready, and potentially could fall flat on his face. No matter what happens on the field this year (except going 0-16 or winning the Super Bowl) it will not undo what he has done, but it still is a hiccup in a great legacy… and enough Madden to keeps us occuppied until 2010. Don’t mind me, just a bitter Falcons/Michael Vick fan here.
