In an exclusive interview , Greg Donovan says some things about Saints Row 2 , which he produced.
He thinks that the violence in the game is over the top, but that it “can’t be taken seriously.”
He adds: “In America people are more concerned with nipples, rather than, you know, unadulterated violence in some other game. Culturally, it’s very different from, say, Europe.”
Do you think it’s fair to say that, generally , Americans are ok with violence and uncomfortable with nudity? Remember Janet Jackson? People went berserk over that.
Why should the general population be so concerned with a nipple?
Perhaps the idea comes from religious extremism. Maybe they think that the mere sight of a nipple turns the average American into a sex-crazed zombie who runs out in the street to search out instant fornication. (Yes, I’m being a tad flippant.) I don’t think that is what happens.
When has the source of nearly everyone’s nutrition in their infancy years become so vilified?
Is the idea that the nipple has a natural purpose, and that to use a nipple for anything other than that purpose is wrong? (A kind of natural law ethics?)
Maybe I missed it–did God command that the nipple should be unseen, except by infants and spouses?
I don’t want to hear about how the sight of nipples will lead to the downfall of society.
There are Danish grocery stores put porn out in a discount bin, at the very front of the store, right when you walk in. Now, I’m not saying that that is what Americans should do with their grocery stores.
Clearly the temperament of the people has to be taken into account with such productions dealing with sex. What I am saying is that there is no element in human nature that precludes a consistency between relevation of a nipple and the integrity of our social fabric.
Besides, what is responsible for more disruption in society–nipples or violence?
I think Americans’ general attitude to these topics needs an adjustment. (Yes, I said it. An attitude adjustment .)
Rant over.
