12 ways video games actually benefit real life

Microsoft has kicked off two new promotions for the Xbox Live service to follow up on the impressive New Xbox Experience update they launched a few weeks ago.

First they are now offering a “deal of the week” in the Xbox Live Marketplace. There will be one deal per week that goes up on every Monday and “could be a movie rental, a map pack or even an Xbox LIVE Arcade game”. These deals are only available to players with Gold memberships. The first offered product is the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack at a savings of 33% which brings the cost down from 600 points to 400 points. Halo 3 once again is on top of the most played on XBL list this week. As a bonus Bungie is also giving away free Recon armor for some players that hop into a playlist that includes these maps. All you have to do is play in one of the hoppers and hope they pick you in their “digital drawing”.

Playlists Included:
DLC Big Team
DLC Free For All
Team Snipers
Team SWAT
Team Doubles

Secondly Silver members will have the opportunity to taste some of the multiplayer experience before they upgrade to gold memberships. Microsoft is calling this “Friendship is Free” and for a month these players that have yet to upgrade will see the multiplayer functionality functions for eight games be unlocked for them to try out. Of course regional restrictions do apply this does not unlock all of the perks that the Gold Membership holds. It does however showcase the main feature and that is online multiplayer gaming. The games included are “A Kingdom for Keflings,” “Aegis Wing,” “Bomberman Live,” “Hardwood Hearts,” “Hardwood Spades,” “UNO,” “Small Arms” and “Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix”.

The two games that stick out most in that list are “A Kingdom for Keflings” and “Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix“. ‘Kingdom’ for using the new avatar system in gameplay and ‘SSF2THDR’ for being a brand new addition to the marketplace and very prominent in the NXE.
