In addition to releasing a bunch of new Guitar Hero games this year (including one we said not to), Activision is now giving away free music. The band Wolfmother has made their first single “Back Round” from their upcoming album “Cosmic Egg” available online for free. The album is not due out until September but the song is available for free at GH5.GuitarHero.com now. It will be featured in the upcoming sequel, Guitar Hero 5.

Australian rockers Wolfmother are making Guitar Hero history with the release of their “Back Round” single, now available for free download exclusively at GH5.GuitarHero.com. For the first time in franchise history, music featured in a Guitar Hero game is being offered as a free digital download, prior to its public release. The song, which is to be featured in Activision’s upcoming Guitar Hero 5, is set to be the first single off their upcoming album Cosmic Egg, due out in September. Guitar Hero 5 is scheduled for release on September 1, 2009.
