Steve Wiebe Falls Short in Donkey Kong Quest at E3
Ever since “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” fans of classic gaming have known the names Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe. The back and forth battle between the two over the Donkey Kong arcade world record made a thrilling movie documentary and has gone way beyond the film.
Today at the E3 2009 conference, G4 gave Steve Wiebe the chance to regain his title as world record holder live in front of the studio audience and streaming live across the internet. Wiebe was given three chances to take back the record currently held by Billy Mitchell.
In one attempt the power went out while he was at level 12 with no deaths and a score over 150,000. In his third and final attempt Wiebe did actually reach the famous “kill screen” but fell short of Billy Mitchell’s record by 60,800 and coming just under the 1,000,000 mark with a final score of 989,400.
So as it stands now, Billy Mitchell remains the Donkey Kong world record holder with his high score of 1,050,200.
