Gabe Newell From Valve Interviewed by Good Game
E3 was the mixing pot for all kinds of video game news and details this year ranging from the Beatles Rock Band updates to Activision’s strongest lineup in company history. It was also a chance for game creators to have a nice sit down with different web sites and magazines.
Gabe Newell, President of Valve Software, was no exception to this when he was interviewed by Good Game. Apparently Mr. Newell wasn’t the easiest person to find, but thanks to Good Game’s many years of Counter Strike map reading, they had just enough experience to hunt him down.
During the interview several subjects were touched upon concerning not only Valve but the video game industry in general. In the interview Gabe discusses why it was that he decided to go into the gaming industry (5:12), and talks about the key to the success of Half Life (9:56) as well as the values that he holds as a game creator (11:31). Good Game also brings up questions about how Gabe feels about independent gaming (12:05) and also the big question of how Valve feels about piracy (13:11).
Valve, after all, is no stranger to having their games used to create other games like the game Team Fortress 2, which was recently used to re-create the intro to Band of Brothers, and as far as Gabe is concerned, it’s not something that Valve really worries about. Does that mean they would like our Shaun of the Left 4 Dead?
