Real Life Meets Fallout 3: Part 3 – Nuclear Explosions
In this series, I take a look at websites that show pictures of abandoned buildings that seem eerily close to Fallout 3’s depiction of a post-apocalyptic future. I’ve really liked how the Fallout creators have managed to make its vision of the future seem like a live possibility–one that we humans should avoid.
Here are parts 1 and 2:
- Real life meets Fallout 3: part I: abandoned missile silo
- Real life meets Fallout 3: part 2: more decay
In part 3, let’s look at the mind-boggling power of nuclear weapons. As you know, in Fallout 3, the land have been ravaged by nuclear war, but there are still mini-nukes around the Capital Wasteland, and even the cars produce mushrooms clouds when they explode (which is useful for dealing with Super Mutants in the game). Let’s take a peek at the real things:

The site has various stats about the tests of nuclear weapons. Check out this table:

Let’s turn to some images:
This first one, to me, looks just like the landscape of Fallout 3.
While it’s fun to play Fallout 3, it would not be fun to have the world of Fallout 3 become real (and that’s quite an understatement).
Next week, our series of the connections between real life and Fallout 3 will continue.
