EA’s Marketing of the Future?

Here is something we have not seen before – being contacted personally by the developer after playing a game (maybe I am wrong and let me know if I am). After playing the demo of FIFA 10 on Xbox Live, we were sent an email encouraging us to purchase the full game. It was sent to the email address that we associated with our Xbox Live Gamertag.

Are these friendly and welcome messages to expect from companies or is it a nuisance that needs to stop? Admittedly, not every company is Electronic Arts and has the resources to pull off such “feats,” so maybe this is not a trend. However, developers and publishers can use it as an effective way to give feedback and thanks for playing their product, and thus lay the foundation for an extended promotion. And if they are games like FIFA 10 (it has been the highest rated sports game on ‘next-gen’ systems) then we cannot see many issues with encouraging us to buy them.
