ZEN Studios, the brains behind ZEN Pinball on Playstation Network, will be switching their focus from metal balls to white ones in Planet Minigolf. This will be a Playstation Network exclusive as well and has no official release date yet.
ZEN Studios is the unofficial torch carrier of realistic ball-physics and are unsatisfied with just making pinball games. “After successfully launching several pinball titles we decided to focus on expanding our library of games into different genres while staying true to the foundation that made our studio so successful,” said Zsolt Kigyossy, managing director for ZEN Studios. “We’ve taken the same battle-tested ball-physics engine that was used to develop the ZEN Pinball franchise and applied it to Planet Minigolf resulting in the most true-to-life miniature golf experience available on PlayStation Network.”
In all sincerity, ZEN Pinball really did have realistic ball-physics and an attention to detail that required gamers maintain a zen-like focus to conquer each table. Given what has been shown so far, it looks like ZEN Studios will retain their…ball dominance in Planet Minigolf (surely there is a better way to describe their abilities). Planet Minigolf will feature six customizable characters, 144 unique holes with various hazards and interactive objects, and trademark attention to detail paid to the terrain. Also in Planet Minigolf will be a multiplayer mode featuring a local hotseat mode, weekly tournaments and worldwide competitions.
Considering my shameless thirst for unparalleled graphics, I look forward to seeing if Planet Minigolf will squeeze as much technical strength out of the PS3 as possible. You hear me ZEN Studios? I expect rag-doll physics, destructible obstacles, animated faces on the golfers, and a wide array of trick shots.
