Need for Speed Franchise Sells 100 Million Total Copies

With the release of Need for Speed SHIFT and the soon to be released NFS NITRO, Electronic Arts long-running racing franchise shows no signs of slowing down. The first NFS appeared in 1994 as Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed and save for a few instances, has had a title release every year.

EA announced today that they have hit their next milestone in domination of the racing genre: the franchise has thus far sold 100 million copies. That is a huge number. What makes this number more ridiculous is that for every one American passenger car sold since 1994, one or more copies of Need for Speed were sold as well. Wrap your mind around that one. The next time you see someone driving a new American car, know that statistically, they have played a Need for Speed game.

Say what you want about EA and Need for Speed, but 100 million only deserves acknowledgement.
