Modern Warfare 2 Takes Over TV

As we said yesterday, Modern Warfare 2’s launch trailer would be aired last night. Did you see it? If not, we have the trailer here below.
If you caught the trailer and either of the shows that it aired during, you probably also noticed the multitude of video game commercials. We noticed spots for (let us know if we have missed any) Borderlands, Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and ads for both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. On top of that, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 not only had its launch trailer air last night, but also sponsored the “Tale of the Tape” for the fight between Marcus Jones and Michael Wessel on Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter, seen above (it even got a verbal mention from the announcer- “This tale of the tape is brought to you by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the sequel the best selling first-person action game of all-time.”)
Although most of the commercials for the games were just taking advantage of a situation (Modern Warfare 2’s launch trailer attracting more viewers than normal), is this a trend? Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is almost officially the highest pre-ordered game ever (GameStop has confirmed it is in fact its highest pre-ordered game ever) and is opening floodgates for the gaming world to pour into culture. Video games commercials have been around since the beginning of the industry, but have they ever been so densely packed and apparent on television?
