Prior to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2’s release, many were speculating on the amount of sales that the game would accrue (us included). The amount of preorders for the game was unprecedented, with GameStop confirming the game had more reservations than any other game in the company’s history.

It turns out that the speculations came true, as Modern Warfare 2 set opening day records with over 4.7 million copies moved in the North America and the UK on the first day. The estimated revenue from the game on opening day is roughly $310 million, making it the biggest entertainment launch in history.

That’s a pretty impressive number. Considering that entertainment also includes film and music, Activision and Infinity Ward have a lot to be happy about right now.
