Dead Space 2 Officially Announced

We like Dead Space a lot here. You can find it in our 14 Average Joes Turned Video Game Heroes and Halloween Cosplay articles (/end shameless self-promotion). Needless to say, we were happy to find out that EA has officially announced a sequel to the space horror thriller. It was kind of written on the wall, considering EA’s dedication to the IP (an animated film- Dead Space Downfall, Dead Space: Extraction and its accompanying comic).

Isaac Clarke, the protagonist from the original game, will be returning in Dead Space 2 (currently the official name of the sequel). “Like so many gamers worldwide, we love the Dead Space franchise and are very excited to announce a new game in the series,” said Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA. “Visceral Games is quickly becoming known for delivering high-quality, action-packed games. Dead Space 2 is on target to deliver a jaw-dropping experience gamers won’t soon forget.”

“We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing!” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer of Dead Space 2. “In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”

Word on a release date has not been announced but considering that the Dead Space universe and IP is pretty well established, do not surprised to see Dead Space 2 in the Fall or Winter of 2010. It has been announced for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 however. More info on anything Dead Space can be found at http://www.deadspacegame.com.
