–Naperville, IL. A local caucasian teen is worried that a “black dude” at his high school might recognize Jensen’s voice from playing multiplayer video games on XBOX Live.
Tommy J. (real name withheld by request), 17, said that he has lost his temper in the last few weeks after losing some crucial Halo 3 matches and has frequently used some racial epithets when talking to the opposing team in the subsequent postgame lobby.
Since hurling the slurs at what sounded to him like some African American opponents, Tommy has been increasingly worried that one of these “black guys” is from his school and will recognize his voice and beat him into a whimpering pile of pathetic submission.
“I was getting my square pizza for lunch in the cafeteria the other day, and I was talking to Ryan S. (name withheld), and this one big black dude started staring at me,” Tommy said. “I thought, ‘Oh shit… he’s knows I’m DeMON1C Sn1PEr [Tommy J.'s gamertag] from Halo… This guy is so going to stomp my ass after school.”
That day passed without incident, but Tommy is still anxious about going to school.
Tommy’s 15-year old brother, Eric, doubts that Tommy will be attacked. “Are you kidding me? Tommy’s sweet as pie to black dudes. He’s never even looked at a black guy the wrong way.”
We asked Eric as to why he thought Tommy uses the racial slurs.
“Tommy is just talking shit to impress his dorkass friends on XBOX Live. The only reason he drops n-bombs and shit is because he knows he’s anonymous online. He’s too big of a pussy to say any of that shit to a black dude in real life. I will laugh my onion bag off if he gets a red-assed beatdown, though.”
We asked a local black gamer for his reaction to Tommy J.’s behavior. Terrell Johnston, 18, shook his head and said: “Think I care? I’ve heard it all on XBOX Live. Same old bullshit over and over. White kids just tryin’ to be shocking.”
