Bungie confirms Halo: Squat (Halo 5)

Bungie Studios today confirmed that Halo: Squat will be the sequel to 2010′s Halo: Reach.

Senior Bungie programmer, Randall Newtson, said today at a press conference:

We are excited to announce Halo 5. We at Bungle count Halo: ODST as being Halo 3.78. Halo: Reach, of course, is Halo 4.2372. Our latest news is that Halo 5 will be called “Halo: Squat.”

We wanted to continue the new trend of naming our games in the Halo series with bland, uninformative,  unoffensive words that could be either nouns or verbs. We also considered “Halo: Lounge,” ‘Halo: Mumble,” “Halo: Chew,” “Halo: Stir,” and “Halo: Lag” as possible names for the game.

Bungie also announced today that they have made a deal with Cartoon Network, and the leading character of Halo: Squat will be Aqua Teen Hunger Force‘s Master Shake:

Newtson added that he expected Halo fans to experience little cognitive dissonance with Master Shake’s integration into Halo gameplay, since Master Shake has about the same agility and speed as–if not a bit more than–his predecessor, Master Chief.

DLC for Star Wars:TFU out for PS3

Whoa. The XBOX 360 people have to wait for theirs. But the PS3 crew is ready to rock the new DLC now. “Isn’t that special?” Nevermind. That’s an old reference. You won’t get it. I suck.

A new single-player level for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is available for download now for PlayStation 3 owners through the PlayStation Network. The level features The “Secret Apprentice” in an entirely new mission on Hoth that continues the story of The Force Unleashed in a new “Infinities” storyline that takes the Star Wars Saga in an entirely new and unexpected direction.

The new Hoth mission will be available for Xbox 360 owners through Xbox LIVE Marketplace on February 23.

The Hoth level concludes the “Infinities” storyline set up in the previously available Tatooine mission, as the Secret Apprentice is sent to the planet Hoth to crush the Rebellion once and for all. While on Hoth, players face Luke Skywalker himself while visiting iconic locations seen in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

2k Games Building Civilization V

The roughly 20-year old series of Sid Meier’s Civilization will be continuing in Civilization V. The fifth game will have a completely new combat system, deeper diplomatic interactions and a whole bunch more features which will probably lead you into darker stages of video game addiction.

Constantinople in Civilization V

Civilization V takes this definitive strategy game series in new directions with the introduction of hexagon tiles allowing for deeper strategy, more realistic gameplay and stunning organic landscapes for players to explore as they expand their empire. The brand new engine orchestrates a spectacular visual experience that brings players closer to the Civ experience than ever, featuring fully animated leaders interacting with players from a screen-filling diplomatic scene and speaking in their native language for the first time. Wars between empires feel massive as armies dominate the landscape, and combat is more exciting and intense than ever before. The addition of ranged bombardment allows players to fire weapons from behind the front lines, challenging players to develop clever new strategies to guarantee victory on the battlefield. In addition to the new gameplay features debuting in Civilization V, an extensive suite of community, modding and multiplayer elements will also make an appearance.

“Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise has been recognized as one of the greatest PC game franchises of all time with millions of units sold worldwide,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Civilization V takes the franchise further by offering players a more immersive experience with deeper strategies; heightened tactical combat; vast, realistic landscapes to explore, battle over and claim as their own; and an in-game community hub where Civ fans can share content and compete against each other without leaving the game. This marks a new era that will forever change the franchise responsible for sleep deprivation and reduced productivity for nearly two decades.”

“Each new version of Civilization presents exciting challenges for our team,” said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games. “Thankfully, ideas on how to bring new and fun experiences to Civ players never seem to stop flowing. From fully animated leaders and realistic landscapes, new combat tactics, expanded diplomacy and shared mods, we’re excited for players to see the new vision our team at Firaxis has brought to the series.”
